Wesley C. Witt, 87, of 1616 S. Harlem Ave, Freeport, IL died July 26, 2010 in Freeport. Born January 12, 1923 in Appleton, WI, son of Orval Witt and Blanche (Wait) Witt. Married Anita Watson, August 29, 1947 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL. Graduate of Freedom, WI High School. Army Veteran of World War II Asia- Pacific Theater-Serving 34 months. Antitank Gun Crewman-received Good Conduct Medal Combat Infantryman badge, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze battle stars, bronze service arrowhead and Philippine Defense Ribbon with two bronze battle stars, 5 overseas service bars. Also in Japan after bombing. He dairy farmed in Appleton, WI and Oregon-Mt. Morris area from 1946 to 1964. Member of DHIA Board from 1950 to 1952. Postal employee at Mt. Morris, IL from Fall 1963 to 1988- Retiring as accounting technician.
Past member of Freedom Moravian Church, Freedom, WI, serving as S.S. Treasurer; St.Paul’s Lutheran Church, Oregon, IL, and S.S. teacher,; Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt.Morris IL, serving as S.S. Treasurer, SS superintendant, SS teacher and Church council member; Also on Board of Governors of LSSI and Secretary N. Central Area LSSI. Member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Freeport IL, member of Mt. Morris and Oregon, Il VFW. Wesley loved woodworking and making furniture for his entire family.
Survivors include wife, Anita (Watson) Witt 3 sons: Terry (Georgia) of Angier, NC, David (Susan) of Blue Springs, MO, and Charles (Robin) Witt of Freeport, IL, one sister Dorothy Wendt of Seymour, WI, 11 grandchildren; Matthew (Irene) of GA, Jodi of Angier, NC_US Army, Karen (David) of Blue Springs, MO, Ryan (Kim) of Blue Springs, MO, Breanna of Kansas, MO, Benjamin US-Air Force, Joshua of Blue Springs, MO, Nathan of CO, Brenda (Rod) of Freeport, Bonnie (Josh) of Freeport, Chrystel (Toby) of Freeport, Il, Arthur of Freeport, IL, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral Services will be Friday 11:00 A.M. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport. Visitation will be Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Prince of Peace.
