Brian L. Mikkelsen, 51, of Madison, WI passed away at home on June 18, 2017 after a year- long illness. He was born March 12, 1966 in Chicago, IL to Jeffrey B. and Kathleen (Boggs) Mikkelsen. Brian graduated from Freeport High School in 1983, and was a National Merit Scholar. He attended the University of Chicago, studying economics and political science, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in database management. He lived in Seattle, WA and Santa Cruz, CA during his employment for the software company Oracle. For the past 10 years, he has been employed by Esker of Madison, WI and Lyon, France. Brian was a voracious reader of both fiction and nonfiction and was a lover of history. He was well versed on the biographies of the American presidents and could converse easily about their terms in office and contributions. Brian was a Civil War buff and a self-described political junky. He loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and several countries. Brian is survived by his life partner and best friend, Jennifer S. Sandor, his parents Jeff and Kathy Mikkelsen of Freeport, IL, his brother Todd A. Mikkelsen, many loving aunts and uncles, as well as many cousins and friends. His intelligence, wit, charm, kindness, and loving nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family wishes to thank Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care for their kind and competent caregiving in Brian's final days. A celebration of and thanksgiving for Brian's life will be held at Madison Masonic Center, 301 Wisconsin Ave, Madison, WI, on June 29, 2017, at noon.
