Elmira C. Lubenow, 83, of Freeport and formerly of Red Oak, died Tuesday March 20, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family. Elmira was born on August 22, 1928 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Hilda (Schlomann) Melcher. On September 9, 1950 Elmira married Elmer Lubenow in Forrest Park, IL. Together they farmed and Elmira took care of the house. Elmira was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, fishing, gardening, attending craft shows, mowing with her John Deere and traveling to Minnesota. Survivors include; her husband Elmer Lubenow of Freeport, four daughters Liane (Mike) Curry of Aurora, Bonnie (Dennis) Piefer of Freeport, Gayle Lubenow of Freeport and Karen Strodes of Houston, Texas, one brother; Hilliard (Nancy) Melcher of West Chicago, 12 grandchildren; Tom, Joe and Bill Curry, Marci Sullivan, Eric and Tyler Wellman, Andrew and Nikki Piefer, Sarah Piefer, Brett Piefer, Jenny Nelson,Marlin and Marissa Jordan and Allan and Nick Strodes. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren. Elmira was preceded in death by her parents and one brother; Louis. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday March 27, 2012 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Stephen Precht officiating. There will be a visitation Monday March 26, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. There will also be a visitation from noon until time of service Tuesday at Our Redeemer. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Elmira'™s memory.
