Gerald "Jerry" A. Van Loh

Gerald A. "Jerry" Van Loh, 77, of Mercedes, Texas and former Freeport resident, died Sunday June 4, 2017 at Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, Texas. He was born June 9, 1939 in Freeport, Illinois the son of Alvin and Gladys (Gill) Van Loh. On February 23, 1963 he married Judith A. Dawson in Freeport. Judy died October 25, 2014. Jerry graduated from Freeport High School in 1957. He was a United States Navy veteran who served from 1959-1962, followed by the Naval Reserves from 1962-1964. He farmed for several years in German Valley, Illinois. Jerry attended Freeport Community College and Southern Illinois University. He worked in Human Resources for several companies and retired from J.J. Keller, Appleton, WI in 1993. After retirement, Jerry and his wife Judy opened a furniture refinishing business until they both retired and moved to Texas. Jerry enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Jerry is survived by his son, Gerald A. Van Loh II of Long Island, New York; his daughter, Kristine (Matthew) Bergmann of Dale, Wisconsin; his sister Mary (Norm) McGinnis of Gainesville, Georgia; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, wife, and son Douglas Van Loh. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday June 23, 2017 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Rev. Ken Lawson officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service. Burial of cremains will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in his name.
