Joyce E. Ross, 84, of Freeport, passed away Tuesday February 2, 2016 at Stephenson Nursing Center. Joyce was born on January 21, 1932 in Orangeville, IL, the daughter of Elery and Katherine (Maher) Miller. Joyce married Jerald Ross on December 24, 1949. Jerald passed away May 28, 1994. Joyce worked as a nurses aide, homemaker and worked at Stephenson Nursing Center. She was a member at Faith United Methodist Church in Freeport for over 65 years where she also taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Silver Creek Home Extension. Joyce enjoyed flowers, birds, crocheting, and gardening. Survivors include her daughter, Jill (Michael) Fricke of Ridott; son, James (Trudy) Ross of Pearl City; four sisters, Betty Busjahn of Mazon, Illinois, Donna (Donald) Scofield of Freeport, Doris (Gary) Keith of Freeport, and Arlene (Dale) Giesel of Normal, Illinois; brother, Robert Miller of Fairfield, Iowa; sister-in-law Jackie Stine; two grandchildren, Terry Gustafson and Jennifer (Brian) Burke; and three great-grandchildren, Luciano Iaquinta, Brady Burke, and Vanessa Gustafson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She never had much in life but was always giving to make sure others did. She always had a smile for everyone, even while she spent her last days in the nursing home. Visitation will be at the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 A.M. with a private family service at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. John Wesley Lee officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in her name.
