Mardell LaVonne Hille, 88, of Freeport, passed away January 21, 2016. She was born January 21, 1928 in Avon, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry Sr. and Martha (Oorlog) Johnson. Mardell married Harold Henry Hille on October 23, 1949 at Embury United Methodist Church in Freeport. Mardell was a graduate of Lena High School, class of 1945 and St. Francis School of Nursing in 1949. Mardell worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, Eastern Star, American Legion, 2nd Division Infantry Auxiliary, Eagles, and VFW. She also was a member of Embury United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Sue Ellen (Loran) Herdt of Minatare, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Cindy (Mike) Koch-Hille of North Plate, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Fay Henderson of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Heather Anne (Daniel) Brown of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Christian Herdt of Omaha, Nebraska, Amber Herdt (James Pounds) of Blair, Nebraska, Matthew (Katie) Hille of White Lake, South Dakota, and Sarah (Derek) Yendra of Kearney, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren, Oscar Harold Brown, Grace and Henry Hille, and Macy Yendra. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mardell is preceded in death by her husband Harold, son Michael, parents Henry and Martha, mother and father in-laws, and 14 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with a visitation from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Pastor Julie Bunt officiating. There will also be a visitation Tuesday, January 26, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
