Sarah Lee Brown departed this life on Monday January 11, 2016. She left her earthly home to prepare for a better place in Jesus Garden. Sarah was born on January 6, 1942 in Durant, MS, the daughter of Clyde and Lottie (Teague) Veasley. Sarah married John Eddie Brown in 1957. To this union three children were born. Later on in life Sarah and William Thurmond began a union and were blessed with two children. Sarah worked at Presence St. Joseph Nursing Center, Structo/Thermos, and Micro Switch/Honeywell. She loved her children and her family. She professed her life in Christ at an early age; and also redirected her life and was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Sarah enjoyed life, family, gatherings, fishing, listening to music, playing cards, and traveling. She especially enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She leaves to cherish to her memory three sons David Brown of Freeport, Il, Michael (Lisa) brown of Clarksville, TN, and Eddie James Brown of Florida; two daughters Debra Clark and Linda (Ray) Thompson all of Freeport, IL; her sister Clydie Mae (Sammie) Hughes of Freeport, Il; her brother Eddie Veasley of Freeport, IL; other family members Robert (Everlena) Thurmond, Van (Jaunita) Thurmond, Mary Pempilton all of Freeport, IL and Eva Mae Young of Durant, MS; 14 grandchildren Timothy (Kayla) Clark IV, Alvin Brown, Cory Clark, Dominique Brown, Mariah Franks, and Alesha Brown, all of Freeport; Patricia (LeRoy) Williams of Dubuque, IA, Tanisha Brown of Rockford, IL, Kevin Brown Sabrina Walker, both of Sterling, IL, Michael Brown, Andre Brown, and James Baker all of Clarksville, TN, and Dena Mitchell of Kansas City, MO; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life William Thurmond; two brothers Willie James Veasley and John Allen Veasley; her sister Annie Ruth Veasley; special cousin Everet Veasley Jr; and numerous aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday January 18, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ (420 Challenge Street Freeport, IL). Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery.
