In Loving Memory of Amy L. Coleman
January 10, 1961 – October 20, 2026
Forever Loved, Never Forgotten
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we celebrate the beautiful life of our beloved Amy L. Coleman, who departed this earthly life on October 20, 2026, at the age of 65. Although she is no longer with us in person, her laughter, love, and unforgettable spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Amy was born on January 10, 1961, in Freeport, Illinois, to Herbert and Thelma Thomas. She attended Freeport High School, where she earned her diploma. Amy continued her education at Highland Community College, where she received various certificates. She dedicated many years of hard work and service to Micro Switch, where she remained until her retirement.
Amy was truly one of a kind, a woman full of life, laughter, and unforgettable personality. She had a special way of bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. Known for her love of fashion, Amy had a style that was uniquely her own. From her fabulous fur coats and stylish short wigs to her signature purple lipstick, she loved looking good and expressing herself. And if you knew Amy, you knew just how much she loved her leopard print! Her wardrobe was filled with clothes, shoes, and more leopard print than one could imagine. Amy didn’t just wear an outfit; she wore it with confidence and personality.
Amy also had a playful and mischievous side that her family and friends will never forget. Whether she was cracking jokes, making everyone laugh, or playfully tapping someone with her cane, Amy knew how to keep people smiling and on their toes. She didn’t just walk into a room; she brought laughter, personality, and a little bit of sass along with her. Her presence was something special, and her one-of-a-kind spirit made every gathering a little more memorable.
One of Amy’s greatest joys was taking pictures and capturing life’s precious moments. You could often find her walking around with her Polaroid camera in hand, ready to snap a picture and preserve a memory. Whether it was a family gathering, a special occasion, or simply an everyday moment, Amy loved capturing the people and memories that meant so much to her. Little did we know that the pictures she loved taking would one day become some of the most precious treasures she would leave behind. She spent so much of her life capturing memories of others, and now we will forever cherish the beautiful memories we have of her.
Amy leaves to cherish her loving memory her beloved daughter, Jasmine Coleman of Detroit, Michigan; her three sisters, Rosie (Dewayne) Thomas of Aurora, Illinois, Rose Shorter of Rockford, Illinois, and Hazel Senior of Kingston, Jamaica; and her four brothers, Herbert (Una) Shorter, Michael Shorter, and Bobby Shorter, all of Freeport, Illinois, and Earl Shorter of Rockford, Illinois.
She also leaves behind Marie, the loving fiancée of her late son, Joseph Coleman Jr., and his three beloved sons, Davion, Deavin, and Demari, who will continue to carry the love, memories, and legacy of their family in their hearts.
Amy also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including her very special friend, Joyce Richmond. Each of them will forever hold treasured memories of Amy and the joy she brought into their lives.
Amy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Herbert and Thelma Thomas; her brother, Terry; her sister, Jasmine Williams and her beloved and only son, Joseph Coleman Jr.
Though our hearts are heavy, we choose to celebrate a life that was anything but ordinary. Amy lived with laughter, style, and a spirit that could never be duplicated. We will miss her jokes, her playful ways, her fashionable outfits, her camera, and all the little things that made her who she was.
There will never be another Amy. Her laughter will echo in our memories, her love will remain in our hearts, and her beautiful spirit will live on through every story told, every photograph shared, and every precious memory remembered.
And whenever we see a fur coat, a touch of purple lipstick, or a little leopard print, we will smile and think of Amy.
Rest peacefully, Amy. You were loved beyond words, and you will be missed beyond measure.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
