Andrew “Andy” L. Ruhl died Sunday, July 12th in Scottdale, AZ.

Andy was born on October 21,1970 in Urbana, IL and raised in Freeport, IL where he created many life-long friendships that continued to his death. Andy was a gifted child who loved pushing boundaries and creating his own path. On the same day as receiving his driver’s license, Andy completed his first solo flight, igniting a passion for airplanes passed down by his parents who were also both accomplished pilots.

Andy was known as “Droid” in high school and graduated from Freeport High School (Class of 1988). He went on to earn several certificates from the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation: Aircraft Maintenance Power Plant (1990), Aircraft Mechanic-Airframe (1991), Commercial Instrument (1991), and Combined Professional Pilot/Aircraft Maintenance technology (1991). He received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1994) and an MBA from Cornell University (1996). Andy began his career in the finance sector while living in Chicago, and ultimately took the position of V.P. of Ruhl Forensic, Inc.

An adventurous spirit, Andy enjoyed scuba diving, skiing, and traveling. He was a food and wine connoisseur and a master griller, famous for his exceptional steaks and lively conversations. He loved entertaining friends and family, filling his home with laughter and great company. An audiophile with a tremendous collection of music and an impressive stereo system, Andy appreciated live bands and quality sounds.

Andy had a voracious appetite for news and information and stood out for his exceptional intelligence and vast knowledge. He loved engaging in challenging conversations and generously sharing his knowledge with others.

Andy deeply cherished his family and loved ones he considered family and created countless joyful memories with them. He will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to those he loved, particularly his triplets.

Andy is survived by his three children Lauren L. Ruhl (15), Liselle L. Ruhl (15) and Luther R. Ruhl (15); his former spouse Jennifer (Keister) Ruhl; his two siblings Roland “Rod” A. Ruhl and Laura Ruhl Traulsen (Richard); Uncle George (Monica) Enstrom of Byron, IL, Aunt Rosiland B. Ruhl of Walnut Creek, CA and niece Nancy Louise Genson, Scottsdale, AZ and several uncles, aunts, in-laws, cousins and dear friends. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Roland “Rolly” and Mary L. Ruhl.

A life-long animal lover, Andy also leaves behind his faithful lab Luke and joins other beloved pets from years past.

Andy’s final selfless gift in life was by being an organ and tissue donor for the Donor Network of Arizona. A celebration of Andy’s life will be held in AZ on August 15th and IL on October 17th (locations TBA). Cards may be sent to The Ruhl Family, 5644 E. Helena Dr., Scottsdale, AZ 85254.
