Arnold “Arnie” Darrell Schmoll, 90, of Shannon, IL, passed away Sunday March 1, 2026, at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1935, in Avon, South Dakota, the son of Phillip and Alma (Gentile) Schmoll. On October 7, 1955, he married Darlene Schlamp. Darlene passed away April 25, 2014. Arnie held many jobs that included working at the Bryon Nuclear Plant, driving truck for Asche Trucking, mechanic, and working construction with the Union #219, where he helped build Freeport Memorial Hospital. In his free time Arnie enjoyed working on and racing cars, hunting, and fishing. Most of all, Arnie loved his family, and he enjoyed spending time with the 5 generations of family he was able to meet.
He is survived by his four children; Joey (Cevin Colden) Schmoll of Beloit, WI, Rose (Kevin) Burnett of Shannon, IL, Mary (Barb) Schmoll-Coombes of Shannon, IL, and Darliene (Matt Brinkmeier) Strong of Lena, IL, grandchildren; Misty Miller of Rockford, IL, Jay (Laura) Miller of Wisconsin, Daniel Schmoll of Stockton, IL, Jennifer (Shane) Griffith of Savanna, IL, Tim Burnett of Shannon, IL, Joshua (Cassandra) of Coombes of Terre Haute, IN, Jerime (Tiffany) Coombes of Forreston, IL, and Nicole Cowman of Lena, IL, great-grandchildren; Kadin, Zoie, Rylen, Colten, Laelah, Derrick, Keira, Aurorah, Lita, DJ, Chloe, Theadore, Zaine, Tyler, Angelia, Antonio, Romeo, Amor, Heavenly, Jaylin, and Ricky, and three great-grandchildren; Aminah, Alivia, and Drevan.
Preceding Arnie in death are his parents, daughter Sue, grandson Michael, five sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. March 7, 2026, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. There will also be a visitation Friday, March 6, 2026, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Arnie’s memory.
A celebration of life will also be held this summer.
