Bonnie Kay Horton, 79, of Freeport, IL, passed away March 5, 2026, at Serenity Estates of Lena, IL. She was born on August 6, 1946, in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Delbert and Virginia (Airhart) Haring. A 1964 graduate of Elizabeth High School, she then attended Freeport Community College and graduated in 1967. After meeting at Freeport Community College, Bonnie married Billy Joe Horton on June 10, 1967, in Elizabeth, IL. Bill passed away February 1, 2023. Through the years Bonnie held various jobs in the Freeport area, some of which included the Freeport School District 145, Micro Switch, Open Bible Daycare, and bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business. Bonnie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Freeport, IL.

Bonnie was a loving wife, mom, grandma, and friend who will be dearly missed. Her unique laugh was contagious and filled the room. She was a true animal lover and had various pet schnauzers through the years. She took up writing poetry to express herself and shared her writings with family and friends.

She is survived by her two children, Michelle Baumgartner and Robert (Melissa) Horton; brother, Albert (Linda) Haring; five grandchildren, Megan (Armond) Hollins, Brady Horton, Bryce Horton, Samantha Baumgartner, and Nolan Rundall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bonnie in death are her parents, husband, and sister, Eleanora Hutchison.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Rev. Natarsha Gardner officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Friends Forever Humane Society in Freeport, IL.
