Gene L. Wolfe

Gene L. Wolfe, 90, of Freeport, IL passed away Saturday May 17, 2025 at Parkview Home of Freeport. He was born March 28, 1935 in Rockford, IL, the son of Lowell and Marion (Anderson) Wolfe. Gene married Carol Lang on July 21, 1956 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Polo, IL. For 34 years Gene worked at Woodward Governor as an engineer. After retiring Gene started his own business repairing pipe organs, which was a true passion of Gene’s throughout his life. A true engineer at heart, Gene could fix anything. He enjoyed working on his model railroad and even got his pilots license. Gene found great joy in time spent boating on lakes in Wisconsin and camping on the shores of Lake Superior. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Freeport, IL; son Bradley (Amelia) Wolfe of Downers Grove, IL; daughter Susan (Rodney) Rowland of Freeport, IL; three grandchildren Ryan (Jo Dee) Nicosia, Amy Lawson, and Simon Wolfe; six great-grandchildren Brianna, Natalie, Bella, Brittany, Madison, and Ann; great-great-grandson Liam; brother Richard (Sharon) Wolfe of Two Harbors, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Gene is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 7, 2025 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Gene’s memory.
