Ida Saar Hutchison, age 97, died on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Manor Court in Freeport. She was born in Freeport, Illinois on November 24, 1927, the daughter of Antonio and Mary (Lauri) Vittorio. She was married to George Saar on November 13, 1948 and later married Joseph Hutchison on February 14, 2004.
In 1945 Ida graduated from Aquin High School and entered into the government-sponsored Cadet Nurses Training at St. Francis Hospital in Freeport, where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1948. Ida worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis and Freeport Memorial hospitals and later in private practice for Dr. Erich Awender. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She sang in her church choir and enjoyed time with her Freeport Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) sisters.
Surviving are her sons: Lawrence (Barbara A.) Saar, David (Anna) Saar, daughters: Barbara J. (Brian Sneed) Saar, Mary (Nate) Meier, and sons-in-law: Ken Ross and Keith Ludolph. Her grandchildren are Steve Stachorek, Christine Lauzon, Michelle Whitman, Justin Saar, Jeremy Saar, Leslie Gitz, David Gitz, Dawn Hart, Scott Meier, Todd Meier, Natalie Haas, Michael Ross, Alison Glendenning, Erika Ludolph, Andrea Larson, and Sarah Marsh. She was also blessed with 35 great-grandchildren. Her stepchildren with Joe include James Hutchison, Janet Scriven and Mary Jane Hutchison. She also has several nieces and a nephew.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Paul, Phillip and Mimino Vittorio, and one sister, Linnette Zanis, her husbands, two daughters: Catherine Ross and Laurie Ludolph, and a great-grandchild, Joseph Lauzon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 13, at St. Thomas Church with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
A memorial has been established in Ida’s name for the Highland Community College Nursing Program. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
