James "Jim" W. Witt

James “Jim” W. Witt, 83, of Cedarville, IL, passed away with his family by his side on February 24, 2026, at Mercyhealth Hospital in Janesville, WI. He was born September 9, 1942, at St. Francis Hospital in Freeport, IL, the son of Roy Jr. and Frances (Clark) Witt. Following his graduation from Freeport High School in 1960, Jim was a veteran He served in the United States Army in Korea post war from September 1960-1963. On May 23, 1984, he married Cindy Lloyd at the Universalist Church in Stockton, IL. Jim started his working career at his father’s service station. He then spent 31 years as a Tool and Die Machinist at Micro Switch Honeywell in Freeport, retiring in 1995. Following his retirement, Jim was a part-time driver where he especially enjoyed driving for Malcolm Eaton.

Jim was a member of Cedarville United Methodist Church. Jim volunteered with the Stephenson County Crime Stop serving 16 years as a board member. His hobbies included participating on the Micro Switch golf and bowling leagues, fishing trips up north, summering in Wisconsin and reading. Jim drove everywhere and did not like to fly, some of his most memorable trips were to Colorado, Florida, Washington, California, and Las Vegas, among other places. His traveling took him to every US state except Alaska and Vermont. Jim was especially fond of his late dog, Lady, and was an avid bird enthusiast. Most of all, Jim loved his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored.

He is survived by his children; Troy (Laura) Coon, Anthony (Kristine) Coon, Marcus Witt, Aaron (Becky) Coon, and Melissa Winters; grandchildren; Emily, Hayden and Katy Montgomery, Forest and Mason Coon, Madison, Allison and Emerson Coon, Reese and Ryan Coon, and Tylan and Tawney Winters; sister Becky (Curt) Andree; and brothers and sisters-in-law Tammy (Wiley) Biggers, Dawn (Nicholas) Thomas, and David (Lisa) Lloyd; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jim in death are his parents; Roy Jr. and Fran Witt; father and mother-in-law Donald and Linda Lloyd; and his brother Roy Witt III.

Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Cedarville United Methodist Church, Pastor Matthew Smith officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service. Cremation rites have been accorded following the service. A memorial has been established in his memory.
