Janet Krieger

April 7, 1939 — May 26, 2025

Janet L. Krieger passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025, in Elgin, Illinois. She was 86 years old.

A lifelong resident of Freeport, Illinois, Jan was born at Freeport Memorial Hospital on April 7, 1939, to her parents, Charles and Marie (Nehus) Duray. She graduated from Aquin Catholic High School in 1957 and remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life.

Jan married Arthur Krieger on August 22, 1964, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Freeport, and their marriage was a cornerstone of her life. She was a dedicated and active member of Saint Joseph’s throughout her years. Her commitment to the church was evident in her extensive involvement, which included serving on the parish council, participating in the prayer tree, acting as a eucharistic minister, contributing to the prayer shawl group, and volunteering on numerous other committees. Additionally, Jan was a strong supporter of Freeport Catholic Schools through her service on the school board. Her faith was a guiding principle in her life, as demonstrated by her weekly adoration at the Sacred Heart Chapel from 1996 to 2010, where she consistently chose nighttime hours for her devoted prayers.

Professionally, Jan had a long and fulfilling career, culminating in her retirement from Microswitch in 1999, where she was a proud member of the Quarter Century Club. Beyond her professional and church activities, Jan had many passions. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Aquin sports, always cheering on the teams. Her loyalty extended to her beloved Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers, and she rarely missed a game. In her leisure time, Jan found joy in reading, as well as the creative outlets of knitting and crocheting.

Jan is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Thomas (Mary Ernesti), Paul, and Edward (Becky); her cherished grandsons: Timothy (Laura) and Matthew (Sarah); and her adored great-grandchildren: Tegan, Sawyer, and Brixon Krieger. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur, and her siblings: Joan Kraft, Mary (Harry) Boomgarden, and Larry (Betty) Duray.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a visitation that will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m. This will be followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 229 W. Washington Place, Freeport. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
