Obituary

Jody Ann Brubaker passed away at home on Sunday, August 9, 2026. She was born in Peoria, IL on October 24, 1957, to Arden and Jean Ann (Kewley) Keen.

After high school, Jody earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Illinois State University and later a master’s degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from Northern Illinois University. She had a lifelong Christian faith and was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Freeport as a member of the praise team and adult choir, as well as past director of the children's choirs and hand bell choir. She enjoyed traveling abroad, especially to Europe and the Caribbean.

Jody is survived by her husband, Gary; daughters, Libby and Elise Brubaker; grand puppy, Jelly; siblings, Martin Keen and Libby (David) Johnson and sister-in-law, Jennifer Keen; many nieces and extended family members; and countless music students. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jeffrey Keen.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A reception to celebrate her life will take place at Wagner House (1 E Spring St, Freeport, IL 61032) on Saturday, August 15 from 1-4 pm.
