John Leonard Altman Jr., 65, of Freeport, passed away, Friday August 21, 2026, at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford. John was born September 24, 1960, in Freeport, the son of John L. and Verna “Jean” (Mercier) Altman Sr.

John was an auto mechanic for over 30 years, owning his own shop Altman Automotive.

Surviving is his daughter Mariah Altman of Freeport; sister, Peggy Altman of Freeport; and nephew, Stephen Altman of Chicago.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Pamela Busker.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm -7:00 pm Friday August 28, 2026, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in John's memory.
