John Rickert

John D. Rickert, 80, of Freeport, IL passed away Tuesday June 3, 2025 at Monroe Hospice Home, Monroe, WI. He was born December 3, 1944 in Freeport, IL, the son of John and Esther (Eustice) Rickert. John served in the United States Army from 1963-1971. After serving in the Army, John returned home and began his work career at Kautenberg in Freeport followed by Modern Plating in Freeport, from where he eventually retired.  On August 4, 1979 he married Susan Maaske in Freeport, IL. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL. John’s hobbies included boxing in his younger years, coaching his kids sports growing up, and following all sports, especially his favorite team the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by his wife Susan of Freeport, IL; two sons Steven Rickert of Goodyear, AZ and Matt (Joy) Rickert of Sonora, CA; three daughters Christy (Derek) Jacobs of Freeport, IL, Tami Rickert of Madison, WI, and Liz (Scott) Johnson of Lakeport, CA; brother Bill (Sandra) Rickert of SeaTac, WA; sister Janice Klever of Davis, IL; and 15 grandchildren.

Preceding John in death are his parents, son John, and brother-in-law Burdette Klever.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday June 13, 2025 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, IL, Pastor Jeremy Heitkam officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in John’s memory.
