Joy Ann Spaulding (née Desrosiers), 71, of Freeport, Illinois, passed away on April 11, 2026.

Born on December 26, 1954, in Burlington, Vermont, Joy lived a life centered on home, family, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She was a devoted homemaker and mother, whose care and presence shaped the lives of those around her.

Joy lived a life of caring—for every, and truly every, one of God’s creatures. She was a voice for compassion and for getting along, believing deeply in kindness in all things. Her compassion extended to even the smallest lives; over the years, countless spiders, caterpillars, and moths were gently relocated rather than harmed, a quiet reflection of the kindness that defined her.

Her love of animals was a constant throughout her life, especially her many dogs and her passion for horses and horseback riding. During the inevitable squirrel-versus-dog chase, she could always be counted on to root for the squirrel to get away clean, believing both would be better off for the exercise. She also enjoyed watching equestrian sports, particularly dressage and eventing, and was an avid spectator of tennis and, perhaps surprisingly, basketball.

She is survived by her husband, Laurence Spaulding, with whom she shared nearly 26 years of marriage; her children, Michael Villeneuve, Jennifer Bordis (Spaulding), and Stefanie Pollitt (Spaulding); five grandchildren; and her four brothers, Joe, Mark, David, and Michael.

Joy will be remembered for her steady presence, her compassion, and the comfort she brought to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of care, kindness, and enduring memories.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  There will be no services.
