Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Wyatt Moore, 72, passed away peacefully February 6, 2026, surrounded by his family in Freeport, Illinois.

He was born May 8, 1953 in Oxford, Ohio, the oldest son of Charles Moore and Barbara Denham Moore and grew up on a farm in Okeana, Ohio, finding endless opportunities for adventure and trouble with his younger brothers Clint and Doug.

During his freshman year at Purdue University, fate intervened when he met Judy Grimes in the dorm cafeteria. After a brief move to San Francisco to see "what all the fuss was about" and learn some short-order cook skills that served him throughout his life, Ken returned to the Midwest and married Judy on May 31, 1975.

The two started their married life in Ann Arbor, Michigan, then settled in Freeport, Illinois to be closer to family. Ken's curiosity and willingness to try anything once led to a very dynamic career. As a mechanic he founded the Freeport Autoclinic, followed by financial planning work with Northwestern Mutual, then insurance with Ferguson Financial Group/Dimond Brothers Insurance. He spent his free time traveling with his family, taking interest in his children's interests, mastering home improvement projects and enjoying weekends at Apple Canyon Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy, his two children Kevin (Becky) Moore and Megan (Alex) Torres, grandchildren John Moore, Lucy Moore, Isaac Moore and Diego Torres, brothers Clint (Scheryl) Moore and Doug (Mimi) Moore, cherished in-laws Joe & Deb Blair and Fred Grimes, nephews Eric (Kate) Blair, Marc (Jessie) Blair, Matt (Kristen) Moore and nieces Amy (Chad) Blair and Morgan Moore.

Ken will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit and humor, intellectual curiosity, and love of Bollywood movies and Indian food. A celebration of life will follow at a later date.
