Obituary

Kim Gregory Grimes, 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Saint Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility with his family at his side.

Visitation will be held Friday March 20, 2026 from 9:00am-11:00am at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. A brief service will follow the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to support the FHN Hospice group through the FHN Foundation.

Kim was born on July 16, 1952 in Franklin, Indiana to Paul and Marjorie “June” (Stewart) Grimes. He later moved to Freeport, IL after graduating from Indiana State University to pursue a career in radio, working for WFRL and WFPS. Along that journey, he met and later married Terri Ann Fieldsend, an employee of Freeport Cablevision, on April 21, 1979. Together they proudly raised two sons, Kyle and Bret. Following his lengthy career in radio, he served as the Executive Director of the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce for twelve years. He was passionate about building and supporting his local community and using his incredible social skills to help businesses network and grow.

Kim enjoyed all things sports, music and outdoors. He had a list of favorite teams that is too lengthy to include and cheered each of them on faithfully. He spent much of his free time outdoors, running with his boys and friends or walking his dogs, and rarely spent a moment without the radio on. The only thing that exceeded his love for sports, music and the outdoors was his love for his family including his wife, sons, grandkids and dogs. He cherished them all and they will cherish his memory forever.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Terri Grimes of Freeport; sons Kyle (Samantha) Grimes of Fountain City, WI and Bret (Chelsea) Grimes of Bettendorf, IA; five grandchildren Isla, Brooks, Maryn, Wren and Ottilie; one pup, Roscoe and many loving other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother Charles “Chuck” Grimes.
