Larry Carl Thompson, 87, of Ridott, IL passed away Friday June 20, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born November 23, 1937 in Freeport, IL the son of Carl and Berniece (Rutter) Thompson. Larry proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. On February 16, 1963 he married Joy Louise Mordick at Second Presbyterian Church in Freeport. Joy passed away September 30, 2022. Larry worked at Micro Switch in the Engineering Department for many years. He was the mayor of Ridott for 16 years. Larry’s drive to work carried into his retirement and he kept busy mowing at Park Hills Golf Course, working at Swiss Colony, and driving cars for Sawiki Motor Company. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his trips on Lake Erie and other lakes in Wisconsin. Larry also loved all types of music. He would set up a stereo in an open window of the house so Joy and him could enjoy music while being outside. Most of all, Larry loved spending time with his family and he dearly missed his wife after her passing.
He is survived by his two children Nicholas Thompson and Sherrie (John O’Connor) Thompson, both of Freeport; sister Mary Kay Baumann of Baileyville, IL; eight grandchildren Ashley (Nathan), Nathaniel (Dulce), Haley, Ginger, Colter, Bobbi, Tyler, and Trevor; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding Larry in death are his parents, wife, daughter Holly Thompson, granddaughter Sadie Thompson, great-granddaughter Alaiya J’Lee Stark, sister Pat Erickson, and brother-in-law James Mordick.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday August 3, 2025 at Lincoln Park in Ridott, IL. Military honors will begin the celebration of life. A memorial has been established in Larry’s memory.
