Lynn Douglas Morgan departed this earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 21 2025 in Freeport, IL.
Affectionately referred to as “Spunky” by family and friends, Lynn was born April 4, 1949 in Fulton, TN to Mary (Elem) Morgan and William Morgan. He developed a strong work ethic at an early age and helped contribute to the household with money earned from a paper route serving the East side of Freeport, IL in his teen years. After graduating from Freeport High School in 1967, he began his long career with Kelly Springfield where he would remain until retirement.
Lynn was a devoted follower of Christ and grew in wisdom and relationship with the Lord throughout his life. He was active in church, most notably at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, with roles as a deacon and Sunday School teacher before eventually becoming ordained as a minister himself. He was a voracious reader of the Word and could be found studying the Bible often. One of his greatest joys was sharing his knowledge of theology and discussing his faith.
Spunky was in his element when he was outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and hunted competitively for years earning many awards. He also loved cars and was always up for a road trip. It was not unusual for him to hop in one of the many vehicles he drove over the years for an impromptu visit with friends and family in other cities. He thoroughly enjoyed food, and fellowship followed by a good nap.
Lynn took great pride in his family and was a loving and dedicated son, brother, nephew, cousin, father, and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his father William, his mother Mary, brothers Ricky and Glynn, and brother-in-law Cecil Pearson. He is survived by his sisters Carolyn Morgan (Springfield, IL) and Rhonda Pearson (Freeport, IL), brother Rex (Jennifer) Morgan (Milwaukee WI), daughter Sarah (James) Gonzales (Centennial, CO), grandchildren Diego, Elijah, Josiah, Lydia, Ezra and Mateo, godson Maurice Cross (Freeport IL), and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and life-long friends - all of whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 1 2025 at New Jerusalem COGIC, 4 E Iroquois St., Freeport IL with a viewing at 1pm and memorial at 2 pm.
