Martin Leroy Genkinger, 84, of Freeport, IL passed away Tuesday July 1, 2025 at Pearl Pavilion in Freeport. He was born September 1, 1940 in Sterling, IL the son of Robert and Celia (Smith) Genkinger. Martin was a 1959 graduate of Forreston High school. On June 13, 1959 he married Linda Pierce in Forreston, IL. Martin was employed at Micro Switch in Freeport for 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Freeport and also a member of the Freeport Eagles Club. Martin bowled for over 60 years and was inducted into the Freeport Bowling Hall of Fame. He also loved racing, especially NASCAR and dirt track racing locally and nationally.  Martin even spent some time working at the Atlanta Speedway with his wife and son. In the summer Martin enjoyed spending time and fishing on the Mississippi River at his home in Bagley, WI.

He is survived by his wife Linda of Freeport, IL; son Wayne (Donna) Genkinger of Freeport, IL; daughter Karen (Eddie) Holden of Freeport, IL; sister Diane (Jerry) Wilke of Sherman, IL; and five grandchildren David, Andrea, Eddie Jr., Chris, and Matt.

Preceding Martin in death are his parents and stepfather Burton Frankfother.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday July 8, 2025 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Bob Werntz will officiate. A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling, IL. A memorial has been established in his memory.
