MaryBeth (Dahms) Coleman

MaryBeth (Dahms) Coleman, 56, was called home to the Lord, on Friday, June 27, 2025, surrounded by family at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.

MaryBeth was born in Freeport, IL on August 28, 1968, the daughter of Lyle and Alice (Richtemeyer) Dahms. She was the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1986, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996. MaryBeth had a successful career in sales, lived and traveled throughout the world, and was always up for an adventure. Far and away, MaryBeth viewed her three children as her greatest accomplishment.

MaryBeth's life was marked by a fervent belief in hard work and endless love for art, food, and music; all traits she passed along to her children. She will forever be remembered for her warm personality, fierce protectiveness for those she loved, and an unrivaled ability to see beauty in the world. Despite a long and arduous battle with mental illness, MaryBeth never faltered in her devotions to God, her children, and her own independence.

She is survived by her mother, Alice Dahms; three children, William, Andrew, and Elizabeth Coleman; former husband, Todd Coleman; and siblings, John (Kathy) Dahms, Marvin (Nadine) Dahms, Bob (Erin) Dahms, Douglas (MaryJo) Dahms, Jeff (Tana) Hellwig, Christi Hale, and Teresa (George) Shashaty, and many nieces and nephews.

MaryBeth was preceded in death by her father, Lyle Dahms; nephew and god son, Cody Hale; and brother-in-law, Warren Hale.

Services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, July 7, 2025, at Faith United Methodist Church (1440 S Walnut Ave, Freeport, IL 61032). Rev. Rodney Caldwell will officiate. Visitation 11:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

The family has requested donations in MaryBeth’s honor in lieu of flowers to National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) – Denver at https://namidenver.org/get-involved/donate/.
