Obituary — Michele Marie Miller
Michele Marie Miller, 66, of Freeport, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, surrounded by family and friends who loved her deeply. Born in Rockford, Illinois, she was the eldest child of the late John Miller and Leilah “Dolly” (Gray) Miller.
Raised in Illinois, Michele graduated from Winnebago High School in 1978. She later moved to Oklahoma before returning to Freeport in 1995. After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Columbia College, she built a varied career in the nonprofit and higher education sectors. She especially valued her role as a student advisor at her alma mater, Columbia College on the HCC campus in Freeport, where she worked until her passing.
Family was at the heart of Michele’s life, and her memory will be lovingly cherished by her brothers, Ron Miller (Suzanne) of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and Kurt Miller (Mary); her sister and dear friend, Tracy Miller of Winnebago; her nephews, Michael Miller (Margaret) of Chicago and John Miller (partner Lindsey Tyler) of Algoma, Wisconsin; her great-nephew, Aiden Miller of Algoma; and her beloved niece, Nichole (Bryan) Girardin of Roscoe.
Michele’s life was rooted in steadfast Catholic faith, quiet courage, and enduring kindness. Throughout her life, she cultivated a warm circle of friends and remained devoted to her parish. Her compassion shone through her faith, service, and work with Madonna Renewal Center in Freeport.
A gifted crafter, Michele especially enjoyed sewing and quilting. She created comforting pieces for shelters, family, and friends—her hands always busy and her heart always open.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace, embraced by God and reunited with loved ones who went before her. Special thanks are extended to the staff at Serenity Hospice in Oregon, IL, who cared for Michele and her family with tenderness and respect.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday, November 6, 2026 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Visitation 9:30 am until the time of service. Final resting place and private burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Freeport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to; Madonna Renewal Center so Michele’s legacy can continue helping others.
