Pastor Wesley L. Spengler

Pastor Wesley L. Spengler, 92, of Freeport, went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday April 17, 2026, at Manor Court. Wesley was born February 11, 1934, in Rochester, IL, the son of William J. and Marie Louise (Ferreira) Spengler. Wesley married Carole L. Podeschi on February 26, 1956, in Taylorville, IL. Wesley proudly served his country in the US Army from 1956-1958. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He worked as a journeyman meat cutter for 10 years before being called into the ministry. He attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO and served at the Nazarene churches in St. Maries, ID, Urbana, IL, and Riverton, WY. After leaving the pastorate, he worked for the Wyoming Department of Corrections Honor Farm for six years. He loved the Wyoming life, and enjoyed ministering to ranch families in rural Riverton for years following retirement. In 2017, Wesley moved to Freeport to be closer to his family.

Surviving are his wife, Carole of Freeport; son, Brett (Heather) Spengler of Freeport; daughters Dana (Bill) Jong of Stevensville, MT and Gina Spengler of Las Vegas, NV; three brothers, Carl (Diane) Spengler of Springfield, Larry Spengler of Taylorville, and Samuel (Carol) Spengler of Colorado Springs, CO; two grandchildren, Justin (Heidi Joy) Hugus, and Stephanie (Kyle) Blaser. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Ellis Blaser, Nova Blaser, and Sawyer Hugus.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Tuesday April 21, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
