Rebecca Lamm, age 81, died on March 17, 2026. Born on October 17, 1944, in Freeport, IL to Everett and Mary Jane Synder, Becky was the oldest of three girls. She graduated from Aquin High School in 1962 and went on to attend and graduate from St. Anthony College of Nursing where she made lifelong friends and memories. Becky spent the majority of her career as a nurse working with Dr. Jessen in the Allergy Department at FHN. She was known as “the best shot giver,” which was a reputation that served her patients especially well since many required a series of allergy shots.
Becky married Dick Lamm on June 22, 1966, and they spent fifty-six happy years together before his death in 2023. Becky and Dick raised three children with love, traveling adventures, family traditions, and GREAT cooking! Becky was active at St. Thomas Aquinas Church where she volunteered making food for funeral dinners and hosting many Dinner Clubs. When Becky retired, she started volunteering as a reading helper at Empire School. This was a true passion of hers and she was proud to teach the children the joy of reading using the old school “Dick and Jane” books and phonics.
Becky LOVED reading as evidenced by the multiple book clubs that she belonged to! She often said, “I need to stay busy,” and in addition to reading she babysat her grandkids every chance she got, crocheted and donated multiple stacks of afghans to area nursing homes, and travelled to various places in the United States and Europe. Her favorite place to go though was the cabin near Minocqua, WI which she and Dick bought in 2002. Many, many weekends were spent kayaking, reading, entertaining family and friends, and drinking vodka gimlets (with green olives) on the dock.
Becky is survived by her sisters, Nancy Shirley and Debbie Snyder, as well as her children, Jennifer Knishka (Scott), Mike Lamm (Dawn), and Beth Lamm (Shaun McCurdy). In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Ryan, Caili, Josh, Tom, Kaitlin, and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson (Matt).
Becky was blessed with a beautiful life and incredible friends and relatives who supported her throughout her progressive and courageous fight with Frontotemporal Dementia. Her sisters, cousins, Sue and Donna, and sister-in-law, Luann, visited her as often as possible during this journey. Becky couldn’t help but smile or laugh when they started reminiscing about stories from the past. For this, we will be forever thankful.
Becky’s favorite things were obviously her family and friends, but she did love going down to the Elk’s Club, Idaho peaches from Brennan’s, being Up North, and shopping.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Winn-Prairie in Freeport, Dimensions Living in Monroe, and St. Croix Hospice. You were kind and respectful towards her and your care had a meaningful impact on her life and the lives of those who love her.
Visitation hours will be from 4-6 (rosary starting at 3:30) at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home on Monday, 3/23/26. The funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport on 3/24/26 beginning at 10:30 am.
In honor of Becky, please find your passion in life, be kind to people, and if you get the chance to travel, always say “yes.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help purchase a park bench for Krape Park in honor of both Becky and Dick.
