Obituary

Rita Ann (Cline) Carter

December 23, 1946 - February 13, 2026

Rita Ann Carter passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 23, 1946, in Kentucky to Paul and Aora Cline, Rita was one of nine children raised in a large and loving family that shaped her generous heart and steadfast loyalty. She carried those early lessons with her throughout her life, pouring them into her own family and friendships.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Lloyd Carter; her parents, Paul and Aora Cline; and her siblings Pauline "Polly" Combs (James), Shirley Cline (Elsie), John Cline (Margaret), William Cline (Debbie), and Allen "Bowser" Davis (Ella).

She is survived by her siblings James "Jimmy" Cline (Alta), Hazel Eckl (Art), and Linda Welch (Russell).

She is survived by her children: Deanna Boland (Kurt), Daniel Carter (Kristen), and Pam Stichter (Jimmy).

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Janelle Nelson (Jason), Raeann Opsahl (Levi), Christopher Stichter (Aerial), Sean Stichter (Sarah), Alexandria Carter, and Gwendolyn Carter, along with many cherished great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.

Rita was a devout Christian woman who embodied what faith in action truly looks like. She was loving, kind, and non-judgmental. She listened without criticism and welcomed without condition.

She was quick to laugh, loved to sing, and loved Jesus with her whole heart.

If her life could be summed up in a single truth, it would be this: she was love, lived out loud.

Her life reflected faith made visible. She would give someone the shirt off her back without hesitation. Her presence brought comfort. Her hugs brought peace.

In her final days, the outpouring of love and support from family and friends stood as a testament to the life she lived and the countless lives she touched.

Rita Ann Carter leaves behind not only treasured memories, but an enduring example of how to love well, live gently, and walk faithfully. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday February 18, 2026 at Zion Church, 4292 W Stephenson St Rd, Freeport, IL 61032, Pastor Steve Rios offciciating.  A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.  Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Rita's memory.
