Rosemary Young

Rosemary “Rose” Young, 74, of Freeport, IL passed away Wednesday September 17, 2025, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. She was born October 14, 1950, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Ingrassia) Schneider. Rose married Gary Young on September 5, 1970, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin, IL. A special education teacher and reading specialist, Rose spent most of her working career with the Freeport School District. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church with her husband. Traveling was Rose’s passion, and she especially enjoyed her trips to Australia, New Zealand, Rome, Ireland, Sicily and she recently celebrated her and Gary’s 55th anniversary in Hawaii. The trips Gary and Rose took with Monsignor McDonald to the Vatican had a special place in Rose’s heart. She also enjoyed taking trips to the casino with Gary and friends. Most of all, Rose enjoyed spending time with her family, especially time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband Gary of Freeport; two sons Joel (Jean) Young of Arizona and Jake (Alicia) Young of Dekalb, IL; one brother Jon Michael (Lynn) of Lexington, KY; and ten grandchildren, which includes Joel’s children Seth, Skylier, Tayla, and Gavin and Jake’s sons Tyler, Logan, Carter, Wes, Max, and Drake.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday October 4, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Father Peter Snieg officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. Burial of cremated remains will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established for Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL and Servants of Mary-St. Thomas.
