Sandra B. Petran, 62, of Freeport, IL, passed away Tuesday November 18, 2025, at FHN Memorial Hospital. She was born January 5, 1963, in Cebu City, Philippines to Pelagio and Remedios (Ricarte) Basa. In 1987, Sandra immigrated to the United States and settled closely with her sisters and brothers in Freeport.
On March 18, 1989, she married Joe Glynis Petran in Cebu City, Philippines. Sandra worked as a paraprofessional at St. Francis School, Willowglen Academy, and Broadstep Academy, all in Freeport, for a total of 30 years. Alongside her husband, Sandra attended all of the Catholic churches in Freeport.
Sandra loved to shop, especially adding to her collection of clothing, purses, and sunglasses. She was also an avid world traveler who would often visit her home country of the Philippines, but had a particular fondness for trips to Europe for its architectural beauty. She had also visited various parts of Asia and Australia. She loved social networking and was a workaholic that was always looking for a way to help people. Most of all, Sandra loved her family and wanted to provide for them in any way possible.
She is survived by her husband Joe of Freeport, IL and her two sons: Grant and Glenn, both of Freeport, IL; her mother Remedios Basa of Freeport, IL; her eight siblings Marietta Basa, Leticia and her husband, William Christians of Freeport, IL; Gayena and her husband, Dieter Geske of Bielefeld, Germany; Fernando and his wife, Aurelia Basa of Cebu City, Philippines; Raul and his wife, Ophelia Basa of Knoxville, TN; Zeida and her husband, Steven Herrmann of Rock City, IL; Elpidio and his wife, Rachelle Basa of Jeffersonville, IN; twin sister Alex and her husband, Alan Guilfoyle of Cedarville, IL; and her two brothers-in-laws Rey and his wife, Evelyn Petran of Round Lake Beach, IL and Andre Oscar and his wife, Fredeswinda Petran of Freeport, IL.
Preceding Sandra in death is her father, Pelagio Basa.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Father Matthew McMorrow officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. There will also be a visitation from 4:00-7:00 P.M. with a rosary service starting at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 North Walnut Avenue, Freeport, IL. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Sandra’s memory.
