Stanley Toomsen

Stanley (Stan) Toomsen, 88, of Shannon, IL passed away peacefully with his son by his side on December 19th, 2025, at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

Stan was born on January 27th, 1937, in Lincoln Township, Ogle County Illinois to Joel Toomsen and Emma (Mildred) Greenfield. Stan graduated from Forreston High School in 1955 and shortly thereafter met the love of his life Barbara Smith. Stan and Barb were united in marriage at First United Methodist Church in Forreston, IL on June 2nd, 1956. After marriage, they settled and built their family in Shannon, IL where they have lived in the same home for just shy of 70 years.

Stan worked at Schneider Oil & Linker Oil delivering fuel and providing other vehicle services. Following the closure of Linker Oil, he worked at Bocker Auto Group until retirement. After retirement he helped at his cousin’s family farm doing miscellaneous field work and hauling loads of grain. Stan was loved by so many… he was always there to lend a helping hand, crack a good joke, and would never miss his grandkids and great grandkids’ sports events or activities. Stan’s family was everything to him.

Stan is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barb Toomsen of Shannon; one son, Kevin (Teresa) Toomsen of Freeport, IL; one sister, Arsetta (Joel) Burkhardt of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren, Fallon (Dan) Westlund, of Elk Mound, WI and Micaela (Chad) Woker, of Freeport, IL; five great-grandchildren, Ryker and Grady Westlund; Greenly, Brix, and Dempsie Woker.

Private Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 27th at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Shannon Fire Department.
