Stephen Allen Udell May 5, 1949 – August 26, 2025

Stephen “Steve” Allen Udell, beloved father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away on August 26, 2025, in Illinois at the age of 76. Born on May 5, 1949, in Wytheville, VA. Steve proudly served eight plus years in the United States Navy before joining Camcar/Textron until his retirement.

Steve is survived by his loving daughter, Catherine Udell of Ashburn, VA; his stepdaughter, Kimberly Maville (George Rodriguez); his stepson, Jeffrey Maville (Jessie), both of Illinois; and his cherished grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Steinman Udell; his father, Earl Allen “Buddy” Udell; mother, Nancy Leedy Udell; brothers, Karl Leslie “Les” Udell and Mark Andrew Udell; and sister, Gay “Lynn” Udell.

Steve deeply loved his family and was steadfast in his dedication to caring for those around him. Everyone who knew him appreciated his easy-going positive attitude, his friendliness, kindness, and great sense of humor. He loved delivering a healthy dose of sarcasm and the occasionally well-timed Dad joke to his daughter. A lifelong football enthusiast, both as a player and a devoted fan, Steve cherished the tradition of watching games and chatting with his daughter each week during the season, a bond that meant the world to them both. Steve never met a classic rock song he didn’t love, especially if it was on an 8-track or vinyl album. Just don’t ask him about anything recorded after 1990.

Steve’s family and friends will remember him for his unwavering love, his strength, and resilience. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Per Steve’s wishes, no formal memorial service will be held. The family invites you to honor Steve in your own way, whether through a favorite memory, blasting some classic rock, watching a football game, or simply raising a glass to him.
