Steven R Miller, aged 72, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with his devoted wife, Sue Ellen, by his side. Born on November 8, 1953, in Dixon, Illinois, Steve was the son of the late Ronald "Ronnie" and Mildred "Millie" (Canode) Miller. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Stanley "Spud" Miller, nephew David Miller, and brothers-in-law Butch Farbo and Mark Owens. Steve leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Sue Ellen (Owens) Miller; his daughter Stefany (Charlie) Brown; his son Michael (Angela Masbruch) Miller; his sister Vicki Farbo; his brother Stacy (Trina) Miller; and his sister Tania VanBriesen. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren—Rachel, Becca, Aech, Kyle, Judah, and Jackson—and a great-grandchild, Jordan.
A graduate of Stillman Valley High School in 1971, Steve embraced the values of hard work. His early years were spent mucking stalls and performing farm chores, and he also worked part-time as the school janitor during high school. Steve later joined his father at Explosives Engineering before dedicating his career to Miller's Blasting Service, Inc., a family business. There, he excelled in the field of drilling and blasting in various counties across Illinois and Wisconsin. Steve's dedication to his work earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. Working with family held a special place in his heart.
Beyond his work life, Steve was a past member of the Illinois Jaycees. Seventeen years ago, he chose a spiritual way of life. He walked that path to the end. Helping many people along the way find their road of happy destiny. He loved nothing more than catching up over a cup of coffee. Steve's passions extended to the Chicago Bears, where he was a dedicated fan and season ticket holder. Game Day was always an event. He loved attending his grandchildren's, nieces', and nephews' games. He found peace in slow, quiet rides on the Pecatonica River with Sue Ellen and delighted in events at the Pecatonica Historical Society. He was a regular at Freeport's music events at the Krape Park Band Shell and Lincoln Douglas Debate Square. He was also an avid golfer, bowler, and darts enthusiast. Those who knew Steve will remember his deep voice, infectious laughter, and warm smile. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with children, engaging them in conversation and leaving a lasting impression on their young hearts.
