Thomas "Tom" "Tommy"
Homer
May 28, 1946 – May 20, 2026
Thomas “Tom” “Tommy” Homer, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2026, with his wife by his side.
Tom was born on May 28, 1946, in Pekin, Illinois. Tom was the son of James and Anna Chamberlin and John Homer. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a mechanic in the United States Air Force. His time in the military reflected the dedication and work ethic that carried throughout his life.
On May 27, 1984, he married his wife, D’Anne Noble, in Freeport, Illinois.
Tom proudly served the community as a member of the Freeport Police Department for 20+ years. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he enjoyed doing lawn work at the golf course before later becoming a semi-truck driver. No matter where he worked, Tom was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and dry sense of humor.
Tom was also a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
One of Tom’s greatest joys was gathering with his morning and afternoon coffee groups, where he loved sharing stories and catching up on local gossip “like old men do.” He also loved riding his motorcycle and cracking a dad joke when he could.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Anna; his stepfather, James Chamberlin; his father John Homer; and his brothers, Todd and Ted Chamberlin.
He is survived by his wife, D’Anne Homer and best friend, his dog, Coco; his children, Matthew (Jennie) Homer of Murfreesboro, Tn, Kaitlyn (Matt) Mau of Lena, Il, Chris (Rassny) Homer of Freeport, Il, Shawn (Shauna Heck) Homer of Cedarville, Il; and his bonus son, Corey (Cory Buus) Daggert of Freeport, Il. He also leaves behind multiple beloved grandchildren, a great-grandchild, extended family members, and many lifelong friends who will deeply miss him.
Tom will be remembered for his years of service to his community and country, sense of humor, and the family and friendships he cherished throughout his life.
Memorial service information will be announced by the family at a later date.
