REFLECTIONS OF LIFE

A Time To Be Born:

Verner Mae Lucas-Williams was born April 1, 1940 to Maudie Band Mister Mose Ford in Forrest City, Arkansas and was later raised by James & Maudie B. Piggues until her adulthood.

A Time To Live:

Verner joined church at an early age. She attended & graduated from Forrest City, Arkansas public School.

As a girl she worked in her Mother's cafe.

As a young woman, she marched with Martin Luther King and Rev. Jessie Jackson during the marching tor the Freedom Non-Violent marching era of the 1960's.

In 1958 she married William Lucas Jr.. They raised five children together for 30 years.

The family moved to Freeport, Illinois in 1969, where she found employment at Micro Switch and retired after 30 year.

In 1994 she married Thomas Williams. They were together for nine years until his heavenly passing on December 17, 2003.

The Family united with St. Martin MB Church under the leadership of the Late Earnest Curry and later joined Philippians MB Church under the leadership of Rev. Nathan Allison, where she faithfully served as an Usher.

Verner enjoyed hosting Family events, spoiling and spending quality time with all of family, especially her Nieces, Nephews and Grandchildren.

She had good friends that she loved and who loved her.

She attended church events faithfully and loved her Pastor, First Lady and her church.

A Time To Leave:

On September 11, 2026, Verner Mae Lucas-Williams peacefully entered her heavenly rest with her blessed wings.

She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories: Four children, Gwendolyn Sha Lucas, Debra Jean Robinson, Lynn Rosses Lucas, Keswick Kenell Lucas all of Freeport, Illinois;

Three sibling, Daneice (George) Benson of St Louis, Missouri, Rickey Resha Newton of Freeport, Illinois and Barry (Judy Lambert) Piggues of Rockford, Illinois; Ten Grandkids, Curtis Terrill Robinson, Randy Clark, DeFredrick Clark, Patrick Clark, Jeremy Campbell, Maurice Mazique, Lynn Lucas Jr., Ethan Lucas, Keith Greer-Lucas, and Sky Greer-Lucas, her one and only granddaughter; Also 20 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren-fifth generation. One stepson, Ronald (Peggy) Williams; two step grandsons, Raymor Zackery and Anthony Reddick; one special Grand Goddaughter, Anna Devey; Two special friends, Mary Carter and Elizabeth Furdge and four special cousins, Charlene Graham, Almo Jackson, India (li mama) Price and Buck Jackson.

Verner was predeceased by her husband Thomas Williams, Ex-husband William Lucas Jr., her son William Patrick Lucas; her four sisters Algerice Horde, Patricia Ellis, Emma Bradley- McCoy, and Connie Jocelyn; her two brothers, Kenneth Williams and James D, Piggues; her parents, Mister Mose Ford, and Maudie and James Piggues; her son-in-law, Gregory Zackery.
