Violet (Diehl) Frederick-Hiteman, 95, of Freeport, IL, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Oakley Courts, surrounded by her family. She was born May 23, 1930, in Freeport, IL. She was the daughter of Merle and Edith (DeWall) Diehl. Violet married Harold Hiteman on November 6, 1948, in Ogle County. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Cheri and Melodie. Hike passed away on November 24, 2000. Violet later remarried Lauren Frederick on April 26, 2003.
Violet was a loving mother and grandmother. She always had a cookie jar full and a coffee pot ready. Holidays were so special to her. From birthdays with all the fixins to sourdough pancakes at Christmas. She always had a big smile and a kiss ready for your cheek.
For several decades, Hike and Vi square danced with the Lucky Leafs. She loved to sew, quilt, and knit. Violet looked forward to crafting with her family. This passion was lovingly passed on to her grandkids.
Violet was a member of the Forreston Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Freeport. She was a FHN volunteer for her daughter, Mel, on the 2nd-floor skilled care unit, until it closed. She was also a lucky attendant in 1947 for Sauerkraut Days in Forreston.
Violet had several jobs over her lifetime. Her Highlights were Phil’s Fresh Eggs and Smith Oil. Hike and Vi started Hiteman Oil and later Hi-Vi’s Gifts and Healthcare in Forreston. As the years passed, she enjoyed being a homemaker.
Violet is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Melodie (Jim) DeWall. Her 6 grandkids: Heather (Tony) Collalti, Brandi (Marty) Sellers, Holli (Brian) Sanders, Jason ( Karen) Feldman, Brant (Colleen) Dambman, and Joshua (Stephanie) Feldman. In addition, her great grandkids: Kyle (Keely), Kane, Ty, Gage Collatli; Caleb, Brooklyn Sellers; Kristian (Abby), Taylor, Aubrey, Blake Sanders; Finley Feldman; Tucker, Wade Dambman. Violet also had several nieces/nephews and their families.
