Virginia M. Kubly, 94, of Forreston, passed away, Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at FHN Mercyhealth Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born March 3, 1932, in Massbach, Illinois, the daughter of George and Martha (Endress) Atz. Virginia married Nelson Kraft on March 3, 1961. Mr. Kraft passed away on May 1, 1980. Virginia then married Doug Kubly on June 12, 1986. They just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Virginia worked right out of high school for two years in Muscatine, Iowa, at an orphanage for infant and older children. She moved back to Freeport and worked most of her life at Burgess Battery before retiring from Ultrasonic Power Corporation. Virginia enjoyed many hobbies over the years including sewing, needlepoint, collecting clowns, bowling, and working in her flower garden. Virginia always put her family and faith above everything. Virginia loved to have visitors stop by her and see her, her face would light up and she would break out in a huge smile. Virginia and Doug were snowbirds, spending their winters in Florida. They had many exciting adventures, where they made a lot of friends and memories.
Surviving is her husband, Douglas Kubly; children, Jodi (Jeff) Stine, Timothy (Michelle) Kubly, and Terry (Alicia) Kubly; grandchildren, Joseph (Taylor) Kubly, Eric (Katie) Sneek, Mandi (Adam) Busch, Ashli Busch, Mason Kubly, Kyle (Morgan) Kubly, and Bryce Kubly; great grandchildren, Lennon Kubly, Araya Maines, Ryne Sneek, Kris Sneek, and Grace Sneek; great-grandsons, Joseph Kearns, Ian Kutzke, and great-great-granddaughter Blu; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nelson Kraft; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Marlene Atz, sister and brother-in-law, Clifford and Loretta Hagen; and one granddaughter, Sondra Busch.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday August 4, 2026, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Rev. Lyle Zumdahl will officiate. Visitation 1:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Kubly’s memory.
