William “Bill” Artman, 82, of Freeport Il, passed away on September 4th, 2025, with his family by his side.
Bill was born on August 29, 1943, to the late Francis and Lillian (Kloepping) Artman in Freeport IL. Bill married Jan Scheider on June 2nd, 1963, the hottest day of the year.
After graduating from Shannon High School in 1961, He worked at several Chevrolet dealerships in the parts dept from 1962 to 2005. He served in the Army Reserves for 6 years, belonged to the Cedarville Fire Dept for 26 years and was a longtime member of the Cedarville Snow Travelers Snowmobile Club. Bill started farming in the mid 70’s.
Bill’s passions were farming, snowmobiling, being on the Cedarville Fire Dept, collecting toy tractors and corvettes, welding horseshoe art, restoring old cars and his family. He was the go-to parts guy for anyone who needed a specific part for a Chevrolet.
Bill is survived by his wife Jan Artman, his daughter Susie (Denny) Ceroni and his two granddaughters Haley Jo Ceroni (Ethan) and Christine Yvonne Ceroni (Brenden). Two special friends, Daylon Becke and Norm Folgate.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gerald (Virginia) Artman; Roger Artman; mother & father-in-law Dale (Arlene) Scheider.
Services will be held at Cedarville United Methodist Church on Saturday September 13th. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 12:30 with the service to follow at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory with money going to Cedarville Fire Department EMR division, Monroe Hospice and St Jude.
