Linda Mae Scheider

Linda Mae Scheider was born Dec. 29, 1937 in the small village of Buena Vista, IL The daughter of Milton & Glenn Iris (Cross) Scheider. At the age of 10 during the polio epidemic, she contracted the disease.. She was critically ill and confined in an iron lung for several weeks and Dr. not expecting her to live. However God had another plan for her! For a while she was completely paralyzed, but with therapy and her strong will, she regained the use of her legs but not her arms, they were permanently paralyzed. She spent many summers in Chicago at the Research Hospital where they did experimental surgeries on her hands and shoulders to help her with the use of her arms and hands. Linda graduated from Dakota High School in 1955 and then went to Rockford Business School , where she earned a degree as a medical secretary. She was employed at Freeport Medical Clinic for 44 years where she retired in 2003. She was a devoted daughter and cared for her father and mother until their deaths. She loved her Lord and Savior and was faithful to her church until she became homebound. Linda was a person with much determination and in spite of her handicap did not let it stop her from being involved with the Red Hatters or going on trips with family and friends; never complaining about her handicap!! She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Eleaner Tanner, a brother David Scheider. She is survived by her special friend Marv Schultz. a sister Arlene Aultman; sister-in-law Linda Scheider; And her nieces and nephews, Michael (Denise)Tanner, Mark (Teresa) Tanner, Danny (Kim) Aultman, Tommy (Darlene) Aultman, Denise (Gale) Robertson, Pam (Jimmy)Cook, Bradley Scheider, Gregory (Nadine) Scheider, Jeffrey (Shawna) Scheider, Tamber (Joel) Peal. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday May 9, 2022 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, IL, with Rev. Gary Rich officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.m. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
